Kalevala
Kalevala Birds of Paradise necklace, silver, Kalevala Originals
Kalevala Birds of Paradise multiple necklace
Two long-necked birds, presumably peacocks, are immortalised to decorate this stunning necklace. Peacocks were considered to be the inhabitants of paradise, symbols of heavenly loveliness and immortality. Below the birds is a noble bowl of the water of life. The arched frame of the jewel is believed to be a metaphor for the church choir. The jewel is a symbol of paradise in early Christian art, where paradise was the kingdom of heaven. The jewellery is modelled on a skull and crossbones found in Kernaala, Janakkala, dating from the 700-800th century.
