Tapio Wirkkala
39 productsFinnish designer Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) was an expert in the processing and design of the most diverse raw materials and objects of use and art. Glass, wood, ceramics, porcelain and plastic bent to his will. His hands also created unique silverware. During his intensive creative period lasting more than thirty years, Tapio Wirkkala designed more than 600 silver, bronze and pewter products for Kultakeskus, many of which survived as design classics and are still part of the Kultakeskus selection as a kind of inspiration.
From his design work Tapio Wirkkala received plenty of recognition both at home and abroad, e.g. numerous Grande Premios in triennials in many different years and the gold medal of the President of Italy in the Faenza international ceramics competitions in 1967-1973. He was invited to become an honorary member of the English Goldsmiths' Guild in 1971. He was awarded the title of Academician in 1972.
