An oval-cut diamond speaks volumes with its unusual shape. It has the same facets as the brilliant, but in the shape of an oval. An oval cut diamond shines like a round brilliant but has less weight, which makes it attractive not only for its shape but also for its price. Check out our domestic Silván diamond rings with oval-cut diamonds!

Diamond oval cut

The oval cut is a modified version of the most popular diamond cut, the brilliant cut. The oval cut is suitable for those who are looking for maximum sparkle, but are looking for something different from the traditional round brilliant cut. Oval cut speaks for itself with its unusual shape, but sometimes the shape of the rough diamond being cut is such that it should be made oval. The oval-cut stone has the same bevels as the brilliant. Based on the bevels, oval grinding can be divided into an upper and a lower part: the upper part has a table, table bevels, upper basic bevels and upper edge bevels, and the lower part, on the other hand, has lower edge bevels, lower basic bevels and a possible tip bevel or cullet. Due to its unique shape, however, an oval-cut diamond is more affordable than a round brilliant by weight.

Oval sanding was only born in the 1950s and thus it belongs to the newer forms of sanding. An oval-cut diamond is popular not only for its brilliance and price, but also for its shape, as it is considered to accentuate long fingers.

Diamond grinding requires correct proportions

In a high-quality polished diamond, the splendor and beauty of the stone are brought out in the best possible way. The quality of the grinding does not mean the grinding method used, but the correct proportions, symmetry and how carefully the grinding and polishing of the diamond has been carried out. Cut is also the most important factor in determining the value of a diamond. When a diamond has been successfully cut, the diamond's proportions, facets, and sets of facets tend to create a perfect interaction with light. Grinding requires the right proportions, so that the light directed at it is reflected back through the largest chamfer on the top of the stone, i.e. the board. The lower part of the stone cannot be too deep or shallow, but just the right whole, so that the light does not escape from the bottom or the sides. In general, 1:1.33–1:1.66 is considered a high-quality ratio for an oval-cut diamond, but in this particular cut, the ratio is also a matter of taste.

In addition to grinding, factors affecting the value of a diamond are its weight, color and purity. These four factors that influence the value of a diamond are internationally referred to as the 4Cs, i.e. cut, carat, color and clarity.

Silván diamond rings with oval cut

The oval cut is a version of the popular brilliant cut, and it is suitable for those who like the look of brilliants, but who want a slightly more unusual diamond for their ring. The Rosalie halo ring from the Silván collection features an oval center diamond and smaller brilliant-cut side diamonds. The Rosalie ring is available in different colors and its oval-cut diamond brings variety to the more traditional round halo ring.

The simpler Silván diamond ring with an oval-cut diamond, on the other hand, is suitable for those who prefer a more restrained style. This ring features a graceful body and a reduced oval cut diamond set with a four prong crown. A subtle but slightly different diamond ring is a trendy choice for an engagement or wedding ring.

Domestic oval-cut diamond rings from Laatokoru

The story of Silván jewelry goes back to 1972, when goldsmith Keijo Silván started making jewelry in the basement of his home. Now in its third generation, the family business manufactures Silván diamond rings and other diamond jewelry at Laatokuru's own goldsmith workshop in Hyvinkää. The rings are made by hand from 100% recycled gold and diamonds selected according to strict criteria, which are bought from large European diamond exchanges.

Engagement and wedding rings from the Silván collection are available in different gold tones and in addition to oval-cut diamonds, also in numerous other diamond cuts. Check out our wide selection and find the diamond ring of your dreams!
