For many, the bear was also a symbol of ancient wisdom – after all, it was believed that the bear was both of the forest and related to people. One of the earliest pieces of Kalevala jewelry was a bracelet depicting bear heads leaning on paws. The bear motif came from eastern Finnish peoples. Now the same bear head adorns the Kalevala Bear amulet.
