Seiko Prospex Diving Watches

Seiko has been manufacturing diving watches for more than 50 years and brought several innovations to the industry as a result of its uncompromising development work. After developing diving watch technology since 1965, Seiko launched Japan's first hi-beat diving watch three years later. The watch had a water resistance of 300 meters, a one-piece body construction, a crown protection and a time ring rotating in one direction. Ten years later, Seiko released the world's first saturation diving watch with quartz movement. In addition to these, its achievements include the Prospex diving watch using a titanium case and a new analog-digital hybrid watch.

Seiko honors this diving watch tradition that began in 1965 in its new diving watches from the Prospex collection. The current diving watches in the Prospex collection have 200 meters of water resistance, a screw-locking crown, a rotating bezel with a diver's scale, and luminescence for the index and hands. In addition, some models have a Solar mechanism, which efficiently takes energy from all light, not just the sun. The Prospex collection also includes a reinterpreted Seiko Prospex 55th Anniversary Divers model from the original 1965 diving watch.

Seiko watches for over a hundred years

The story of Seiko watches began in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop in Tokyo. The young entrepreneur started his business by building and repairing clocks and later founded a clock factory called Seikosha together with engineer Tsuruhiko Yoshikawa. Seikosha published its first pocket watch in 1895 and its first watch in 1913. The continuity of its operations was threatened as a result of the great earthquake that occurred in 1923, but after the factories and warehouse were destroyed, Hattori did not give up but rebuilt his factory. Only a year later, the first Seiko watch was released, the name of which was an abbreviation of Seikosha.

Seiko's Innovations are Revolutionizing the Watch Industry

Seiko's product development is unmatched and it has succeeded in several achievements in the watch industry not only in Japan but also worldwide. Seiko introduced the world's first quartz watch and kinetic technology to the market. Today, Seiko watches are known for their uniquely high technology and the elegant and valuable appearance of their watches. Seiko has been successful not only in product development but also in designing timepieces for more than a hundred years.

The company was the first to introduce an automatic watch in Japan in the 1950s, and its Diashock shock absorption technology was better than any Japanese competitor at the time. Entering the 1960s, the company released the first Grand Seiko watch, aiming to be the world's best in precision and accuracy. In 1964, Seiko was the official timekeeper of the Tokyo Olympics, offering 1,200 different stopwatches for timing the Olympics. As a tribute to the event, it released a commercial version of the chronograph watch, the first in the Japanese market. The chronograph, on the other hand, was followed by the first diver's watch on the Japanese market, the Seiko Divers 150M, which is also the origin of the Prospex watches. In February 1969, Seiko launched the world's first automatic chronograph, the same year it released the world's first wristwatch with a quartz movement.

Seiko's innovations also include the Spring Drive movement, which is considered the most significant invention since the release of the quartz movement. In the Spring Drive mechanism, the escapement characteristic of mechanical watches has been replaced by a Tri-syncro regulator. In this way, an extremely accurate and elegantly finished mechanism has been created, with a second hand that moves smoothly without the stepping typical of mechanical and quartz watches.
