Birds of Paradise story

A long time ago, in what is now Häme, a powerful woman wore multi row bronze chains. The chains connected two churchyard-shaped plaques, where the cup of the water of life was guarded by two peacocks. We do not know what the paradise symbol of early Christian art immortalised on the jewellery meant to its wearer. Perhaps the long-necked birds were lucky charms, perhaps messengers between man and the gods, perhaps something else that only he knew. But he certainly believed that there was power in the jewellery. A power that still remains.
